Are the tyres fit for purpose?
Most medium SUVs are fitted new with tyres built for the road. If you plan to drive off road, you need tyres made for rugged surfaces and mud.
4x4 tyres were once built mainly for off-roading, but more than 75% of use is now on ordinary roads. Road driving wears off-road tyres faster, so if you drive both on and off road, change your tyres to match the terrain. There are tread patterns to suit even the most rugged ground.
Original equipment tyres
A new 4x4 or SUV is usually fitted with original equipment (OE) tyres chosen by the manufacturer for that vehicle, with superior braking and handling. Because they are made for a specific vehicle, OE tyres can cost a little more.
